Tara iti - Beach house

Location: Tara iti, Mangawhai, New Zealand

Builder: Lindesay Construction

Architect: Olson Kundig

Scope of Work

PCR was engaged to restore and enhance the exposed concrete elements of a luxury beachfront residence at Tara Iti. The architectural brief called for a sandstone-inspired concrete finish, requiring precise restoration, cleaning, and protective treatments to maintain both aesthetic and performance standards in a harsh coastal environment.

Our Solution

  • Concrete Restoration – Localised concrete repairs and surface reinstatement to achieve a consistent architectural finish.
  • Polyurethane injection - Cracks injected with Polyurethane Injection Resin to seal against water infiltration.
  • Sandblasting – Controlled abrasive treatment to refine the surface texture and prepare for specialist coatings.
  • Ecotone Coating – Application of the Ecotone colour system to replicate a natural sandstone effect, delivering depth, texture, and long-term colour stability.
  • Ecoclean Sealer – Installation of a hydrophobic sealer to protect against salt, moisture, and staining while preserving breathability and finish integrity.

Outcome

PCR successfully delivered a seamless sandstone-inspired finish, aligning with Olson Kundig’s architectural vision and Lindesay Construction’s high build standards. By combining specialist restoration methods with Ecotone and Ecoclean technologies, the concrete surfaces were both restored and future-proofed against the demanding coastal environment.
